The Northern Rockies Regional Airport in Fort Nelson is getting a big boost. Prince George-Peace River MP Bob Zimmer was in Fort Nelson today to announce $2,586,771 in funding to help improve safety at the airport.

The money comes from the Airports Capital Assistance Program and will cover airfield electrical lighting, a new self propelled snowblower, and front end loader.

In a release Zimmer stated, “Our airport is the gateway to the Northern Rockies region for residents, visitors and local industry. The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality welcomes this ACAP funding which will allow us to continue to operate our airport safely and efficiently with upgrades to runway equipment and our airfield electrical system.”

The announcement was the 14th safety project announcement for the airport. It has received over $11.3 million for those projects.
