In a Northern Health news release, Doctor Richard Moody is quoted as saying, “As a result of discussions at a meeting last week, the Fort St. John Medical Clinic has agreed to remain open.”

As reported earlier, the meeting last week involved seven local physicians, along with Deputy Health Minister Stephen Brown, Northern Heath CEO Cathy Ulrich, and Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm.

In a MooseFM news interview, Mr. Pimm noted, and the news release now confirms, one of the most important outcomes of the talks was a shared confidence that a practice model may be achieved that will both attract doctors to the community and retain existing ones as it is developed.

“It was a very productive meeting. I think everybody left with a sense that we’re making some good progress here,’ said Pimm.

Pimm said local doctors, Northern Health and Deputy Minister Brown will be part of a new steering committee to iron out the details of the new practice model.

“There’s a lot of details to be worked out, but… this will go a long ways towards the development of a long-term medical solution for this region,” said Pimm.

“A different model that the doctors have been asking for, for a long time.”

Pimm added: “We’ll be doing a monthly update in August, another monthly update in September, at which time we’re hoping that we’ll be ready to roll out the program.”

Meantime, in a current services update, the health authority news release lists the ABC Clinic as continuing to provide service, which includes new recruit Doctor Steven Breen as a long-term locum.

It also lists the Fort St. John Primary Care Clinic, formerly the unattached patient clinic, as continuing to provide service, with six newly recruited physicians beginning to arrive in the fall.

And now confirmed, continuing service provided by the Fort St. John Medical Clinic with newly recruited Doctor Carly Loomes to join that practice.
