Winnipeg police identify woman’s body 3 years after it was pulled from river

Winnipeg police have identified the body of a woman that was found in the Red River in June 2012.

Police don’t know how 52-year-old Audrey Desjarlais died and they are appealing to the public for help.

Police originally investigated whether the body was Desjarlais in September 2012 after receiving a tip from the public.

But they turned their attention away from her later that year when two witnesses reported seeing her alive and well.

Police say the Desjarlais family persisted in seeking a DNA test and took their story to the CBC.

When the test was finally ordered earlier this year, it proved the body was Desjarlais.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and they are asking anyone who had contact with Desjarlais in January 2012 to come forward.

That’s when they believe she died.
