The Fort St. John Relay For Life event will take place Saturday at Dr. Kearney Middle School, come sunshine or showers, organizers say.
The event kicks off with main ceremonies at 11:15 a.m., and participants have raised more than $26,000 so far.
“Right now… the stage is going up, the tents are going up,” said organizer Brenda Baumeister.
“Rain or shine, night or day, cancer’s there.”
The relay will begin at noon with a victory lap, the first walk taken by cancer survivors.
The event will feature a silent auction, along with a host of food vendors, and of course, tents, to help keep people dry.
This year’s event is looking to bring in $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. The monies raised will flow back northern communities for support, education, and treatment programs.
“We know we’re going to bring more out the day of,” said Baumeister.
The event also includes live music, including performers Train Wreck, Lorissa Scriven and Ryan Sebastiano.
