PM offers country’s condolences to family, friends of slain policeman

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper is sending his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of an Edmonton police officer who was fatally shot Monday.

The prime minister says he is deeply saddened at the death of Const. Daniel Woodall.

He is also offering prayers for the speedy recovery of Sgt. Jason Harley, who was wounded in the same incident.

In his statement, Harper says Woodall’s service will be remembered.

He says the whole country grieves the loss.

The two officers were shot while delivering an arrest warrant.

“It is a very difficult reminder that police officers across our country put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect our communities and keep us safe,” Harper says.
