McIver to investigate after PC executive mocks weight of Alberta health minister

EDMONTON — Alberta Progressive Conservative Leader Ric McIver says he will investigate disparaging comments made by a party executive member about Health Minister Sarah Hoffman’s weight.

McIver says he first wants to discuss the issue with Jordan Lien (LEEN), but says political debate needs to remain respectful.

Lien is vice-president in charge of southern Alberta for the PC party.

A recent Facebook posting by Lien criticized Hoffman for her promise to ban menthol-flavoured tobacco products and referred to Hoffman as — quote — “morbidly obese.”

Lien apologized for the remark on Twitter when the issue flared up on social media.

He could not be reached for comment.
