The Fort St. John Killbillies ended their home schedule on a positive note on Saturday night. The team welcomed the rated PG Roller Girls from Prince George and came away with a 161-92 win at the North Peace Arena.
Killbillies coach Ashley Large said the team’s loss in their last game served as a wake up call as the club was facing a mixed team that had never played together.
“I think that the last game was a bit of an eye opener for us. We were playing a mixed team that had never played together and they handled us really well. That was an eye opener for a lot of our girls that were just not as clean and crisp with the fundamentals.”
Overall he was happy with how his squad responded both offensively and defensively, calling Saturday’s tilt one of the best games of basic roller derby the Killbillies have ever played.
The team won’t have a lot of time to lick their wounds as they’ll be back on the track on Saturday. The Killbillies will be playing Grande Prairie in Peace River as part of a double header.
