This weekend was the first weekend of summer vacation as the schools let out earlier this week! All of Fort St John seemed extremely excited and couldn’t wait for all the activities the weekend had to offer.
The summer reading club at the Public Library had a huge response, with 285 registered participants on only their second day! They are going to be holding drop in events on Tuesdays and Thursdays all summer as well as several other registered special events! Art Walk is also happening now until July 18th with artworks being displayed at several businesses in the downtown core! And the Dueling Pianos: Burn N’ Mahn were back Friday night! I gave away some free tickets while hanging out with the local cadets chapter selling tickets for their 2015 Harley Davidson Street Glide Motorcycle raffle, being drawn July 1st! Great start to the weekend that continued in to Saturday!
Saturday was a beautiful day and perfect to be outside enjoying all the events! The cadets continued their fundraising efforts on Saturday, where I hung out with them, gave away tickets to the Robert Maxwell Comedy Hypnosis show, and waved to everyone passing us on 100th Street! The North Peace Little League was also having their windup this weekend at the Kin Park Baseball Diamonds as well as the Fort St John Women’s Soccer League Outdoor Tournament happening nearby at Bert Ambrose school field. I also stopped by the North Peace Museum to check out ‘Policing the Peace’ for the 65th anniversary of
The amazing weather continued on Sunday, much to the benefit of all the athletes in the Pomeroy Inn and Suites Fort St John Trialthalon. It was a fantastic atmosphere as all the spectators cheered for the runners finishing their races. The Majors of the North Peace Little League Windup were also grateful for the beautiful weather as they finished up their final games for the season. The cadets were still at it – continuing to raise money selling raffle tickets to send local cadets to the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge in Paris, France, in 2017. The whole community was also enjoying the sunshine, with people playing at the tennis courts, baseball diamonds, as well as riding bikes and tons of other outdoor activities. I also checked in with the SPCA to meet the new crew of dogs and help them with some bottle sorting.
I’ll be out again next weekend in the Hair Bin Summer Cruiser letting you know what’s happening in the Peace.
