Hair Bin Summer Cruiser June 12 – 14

This weekend in Fort St John was jam packed with lots of things to do and see all weekend long! It was definitely the busiest weekend of the year so far – and summer has only just started. There will be even more events and happenings in the Peace over the next couple months. Definitely lots to look forward to! The weather was a bit hit and miss but that didn’t stop Fort St John-ers from getting out in the community!

Friday evening saw the start of the Spirit of the Peace Pow-Wow, an event that went on all weekend long. I stopped in to see the preparations underway before checking in with the SPCA after their Doggie Day Spa that happened on Thursday. They raised over $1400 and bathed 22 dogs in support of the North Peace SPCA! I also stopped by Peace Gallery North where the new exhibit “When Town Meets Country” was opening. Big start to the weekend!

Saturday was my busiest day yet! I was all over town at many events, having a great time! I began my morning at the Fandango Festival in the North Peace Cultural Center, featuring holistic healing options in the peace. From there I went to the Music Jamboree at the North Peace Care Center. Lots of food, music, and dancing in support of the great work they do at the Fort St John Senior Care Foundation. After, I swung by the Marcy’s Bright Ideas and Blondie’s Bath Boutique Customer Appreciation event with the SPCA holding a charity BBQ, got some delicious cake and checked out the deals before heading to the Relay for Life event, the #1 fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Even though it got a bit rainy at times, everyone at the Relay for Life was still smiling and happy to be supporting such a great cause! They ended up raising over $50,000 to go towards the fight against cancer! It was then time to check in at the Spirit of the Peace Pow-Wow. I got there just in time for the amazing Grand Entrance and got to watch lots of traditional dancing and drumming before I headed off for my next event! Saturday also saw Fort St John play host to the Wheatbelt League Skills Competition and All Star Game. Though some of the morning games were rained out, all the evening events went off without a hitch! Before heading in for the day, we checked in at the North Peace Arena for the Killbillies VS Rated PG Roller Derby bout. It was Fort St John’s last home bout of the season, which they won!

It was a beautiful day on Sunday – perfect day to get out and play some baseball! I started off at the Cecil Lake Family Slo-Pitch Tournament, watched an exciting out at home plate there, before heading back to town to check out the Pomeroy Sports Center for Boots, Scoots, and Boards. I then headed out to the college for some hardball! The Fort St John Black Sox took on the Grande Prairie Brewers as well as made up their game against the Grimshaw Huskies that got rained out on Saturday. I went out to the Spirit of the Peace Pow-Wow for a final time, watched some more of the dance competitions, and learned a lot about the history and tradition of Pow-Wows from Ed! Back in town, the Stingrays finished up their swim meet at the Leisure Pool and the SPCA held the Cans for Critters Bottle Sorting as well as Dog Walking and Cat Cuddling

A special thanks to all the organizers who welcomed me to their events as well as the community for all the support shown to so many great causes around town. I can’t wait for what next weekend, and the rest of the summer, has in store! To find out what’s happening next weekend, stay tuned to 100.1 Moose FM or check out Events on Energeticcity.ca!
