The eighth annual Fort St. John Child Development Centre Golf Tournament was held on Saturday at the Lakepoint Golf and Country Club. Funds from last year’s event, as well as this year are going towards the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van for the organization.
Overall 20 teams, and 80 golfers took part in supporting the cause.
Penny Gagnon of the Child Development Centre said the support from the community is great not just at the tournament, but for the organization year round for the services they provide.
“The Child Development Centre receives a lot of support in general from the community of Fort St. John. We put on a good tournament that’s a lot of fun. We serve over 1,200 children and their families annually. We are making a difference and this just shows,” she said.
Over $37,000 was brought in at this year’s event which well surpassed the fundraising goal of $25,000. It’s hoped that the van will be bought this summer.
