EDMONTON — Canadian midfielder Sophie Schmidt’s blond hair is tinged with pink on top these days.
But the 26-year-old from Abbotsford, has no plans to up the ante and go patriotic red for the Women’s World Cup.
“No, I’m staying with this,” she said with a laugh on the eve of Canada’s opening match against China. “My teammates have got the red covered.”
Defender Kadeisha Buchanan was sporting a bright red braid at practice this week. Schmidt hinted more may join her.
“We’re asking Canada to have that sea of red and so why not start with us?” she said.
