A 45-year-old woman is dead following a truck theft north of Dawson Creek on Friday.

According to North District RCMP, officers responded to the theft from a farm on the 219 Road around 4:48 a.m. On their way to the scene, however, officers received witness reports the stolen vehicle, a Ford F-150, was involved in a single-vehicle rollover while heading towards the city.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the woman had been ejected from the truck, Dawson Creek Sgt. Ed Reinink said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reinink said the woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Her name is not being released. The woman had been known to police, Reinink said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by collision analysts and the B.C. Coroners Service. Speed is believed to have been a factor, Reinink said.
