TORONTO — It didn’t take Anthony Coombs long to test his surgically repaired left shoulder.
The Toronto Argonauts sophomore slotback/running back came down the line of scrimmage the first day of training camp tasked with cracking a defensive end.
So the five-foot-nine, 190-pound Winnipeg native lowered his shoulder to initiate contact and deliver the blow.
As he picked himself off the field Coombs felt no pain in the shoulder, a clear sign he was ready to play football again.
Toronto selected Coombs in the first round, third overall, in the 2014 CFL draft out of the University of Manitoba.
Coombs appeared in six games, starting five, before being injured.
