The start to the Wheatbelt Baseball League season has been a rough one so far for the Fort St. John Black Sox. Despite the early season stumbles the team was able to notch their first win of the year last weekend as they split a double header with Rycroft, and will be looking to build off of that this weekend in another double header against Grimshaw.

The Sox will be in Grimshaw Saturday afternoon to swing the sticks with the Huskies. Grimshaw has struggled as well to start the year as they are still looking for the first win of the season.

Player/coach Ryan Stickel said he hopes the momentum from the first win will carry over into Saturday, and notes the Sox need to be able to do their job when they’re up to bat.

“Hopefully we can take what we had last weekend all the positives from there and roll them into this next weekend. We had a short bench last weekend, I’m not sure how we’re going to look this weekend but hopefully everyone can keep that same attitude. Defensively we looked great so I think it’s just getting the hacks and making sure that we can make contact and drive in as many runs as we can.”

The team will next be back at home on June 12 against the Rycroft Rage.
