Three new forest fires start in the North; largest near Prophet River

There is a heightened risk of wildfire due to an extended period of high temperatures and low precipitation, so the Wildfire Management Branch is urging anyone entering the backcountry to exercise extreme caution.

The fire near Prophet River is 250 hectares in size and east of the Alaska Highway in the Klua Lakes Protected area.  No structures are immediately threatened by this or any of the wildfires.

The other fire are both under six hectares in size near MacKenzie and Miworth near Prince George.  Wildfire Management Branch crews, airtankers and helicopters are responding to these incidents.

The number of phone reports received from the public allowed the Prince George Fire Centre to respond to these fires quickly and efficiently. The Wildfire Management Branch would like to thank the public for their assistance.
