The North District Provincial Regional Traffic Services has seen a substantial increase in injuries and fatalities relating to ATV collisions. On the May long weekend alone RCMP officers were kept busy with three fatalities, including one near Fort Nelson as well as a number of injuries from collisions.
As a result of the incidents police would like to remind riders of a number of safety tips. Police recommend riding with a Department of Transportation approved helmet, a sturdy pair of riding boots, gloves, goggles, and a long sleeve shirt, pants, and chest protector.
Police also suggest choosing the right type of ATV for your skill set, taking a safety course, not driving impaired, and not riding with passengers if the ATV isn’t meant to carry them.
