The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation will be holding their annual Bluey Day event this Saturday. The event is expected to begin at 10:30 a.m. and organizers are hoping to raise $100,000 this year.
All of the money raised will be going towards purchasing equipment for the Community Cancer Centre, or medical imaging department. All of the proceeds stay in Fort St. John and helps in buying equipment that aids in cancer treatment, cancer diagnostics, or the comfort of cancer patients.
As a result of Bluey Day donations from last year the hospital foundation was recently able to purchase a software upgrade for hospital’s CT scanner at a price of $200,000. The upgrade is scheduled to be installed June 1 and will lower the radiation patients receive during scans by 30-50 per cent, and provide clearer images in most cases.
As of yesterday 42 people were signed up to have their head shaved at the event. There will be a bouncy castle on site to keep young ones entertained.
