Black Sox to host Wheatbelt Baseball League all star game

The Fort St. John Black Sox will be hosting this year’s Wheatbelt Baseball League all star game. The skills competition and the game itself is scheduled for June 13 and the weekend will be packed with baseball at the college diamonds as a number of league games will be played that weekend as well.

Not only will the Sox be playing June 12 and 14 as well, but Fairview and Grande Prairie will also do battle in a game before the skills competition on the 13th

Black Sox player/coach Ryan Stickel said he hopes to make all star weekend a great event, and is aiming for getting food and beverage vendors out for the duration of the weekend.

“I think it’s going to be great,” he said. “They told us nice and early and they kind of told us last year it was going to be our turn. We’ve been planning a little bit. We’re going to make it a whole weekend of baseball. I’m going to do my best to see if we can get a beer gardens out here and a food van. We’re going to try to make it a celebration; a celebration of baseball and sport out here for Fort St. John. We have the field and the people to pull it together. I think it will be a great time.”

In the more immediate future the Sox will be returning to the diamond on Saturday afternoon. They’ll be taking on the Peace River Stampeders at the college diamonds at 1 and 4 p.m. in a double header as the club looks to bounce back from a season opening defeat at the hands of the Fairview Outlaws.
