QUEBEC — Bernard Drainville is pulling out of the Parti Quebecois leadership race to support Pierre Karl Peladeau.
A source tells The Canadian Press that Drainville told Peladeau this morning about his decision.
Drainville, who is best known as the architect of the the PQ’s doomed values charter, has called a news conference for 1 p.m. today in Quebec City.
The remaining leadership candidates are Peladeau, former cabinet ministers Alexandre Cloutier and Martine Ouellet and Pierre Cere, a spokesman for a group that represents the unemployed.
Drainville has been quite vocal as of late in his criticism of Peladeau but recent opinion polls have put him in third place behind the front-runner and the second-placed Cloutier.
The winner will be chosen in mid-May.
