LANGFORD, B.C. — Canada defeated Russia 26-15 on Saturday to open the Canadian stop on World Rugby’s Women’s Sevens Series on a winning note.
Britt Benn, Kayla Moleschi, Karin Paquin and Bianca Farella scored tries for Canada, currently tied for second in the overall standings. Ghislaine Landry added three conversions.
The Russians are seventh in the overall standings.
The game was the first of three for Canada on the day, with matches against South Africa and the U.S. to come.
Series-leading New Zealand ran its winning streak to 31 games with a 38-14 victory over Fiji.
The 12-team tournament at Westhills Stadium, the series’ first visit to Canada, wraps up Sunday.
