MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — One person is dead and two Peel Region police officers are in hospital with serious wounds after an incident late Friday night in Mississauga, Ont. just west of Toronto.

Police spokesman Const. George Tudos said one officer was shot and the other was stabbed. He described their conditions as serious.

Const. Tudos said one “civilian” was found dead at the scene (on Queen Frederica Dr near Dundas and Dixie) and a second was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Dozens of police cruisers, paramedics and other emergency personnel were on site, but Const. Tudos said no suspects were being sought in connection with the incident.

He said the injured officers had been responding to a shooting call at an apartment complex.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate, as it is in all cases involving police shootings.

No other details have been released.
