Public consultation on local election spending being held in Fort St. John

This includes mayors, councillors, school trustees, third party advertisers and “other offices”, according to a letter by the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.

The province is also asking stakeholders and the general public to make written submissions expressing their views on spending limits during local elections.

“We want to continue hearing from British Columbians about what would be appropriate local elections expense limits for candidates and third party advertisers,” writes committee chair Jackie Tegart.

The date for the public hearing in Fort St. John is scheduled for March 31, 2015, 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., however a location has yet to be determined.

The deadline for written submissions is April 17, 2015.

The Special Committee on Local Elections Expense Limits is an all-party committee of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia – which includes Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier.
