Denny Morrison sets record in 500 metre win in Calgary

Denny Morrison can add yet another achievement to his storied long track speed skating career. Competing at the 2015 World Allround Long Track Speed Skating Championships, Morrison finished in first place in the 500 metre event and did so by setting an event record with his time of 34.98 seconds.

In a release Morrison said, “Of course, the best 500 metre skaters in the world weren’t there today, but it’s still an honour to be able to claim that record. I was right there in both races.”

Morrison also skated in the 5,000 metre where he finished in 11th place.

This morning he’ll compete in his specialty the 1,500 metre race at 11 a.m. CBC will be broadcasting the races starting at 4 p.m.
