Quebec Education Minister Yves Bolduc will quit politics today, a source tells The Canadian Press.

He is also expected to resign his seat in addition to quitting cabinet.

Bolduc has been a source of embarrassment for the governing Liberals after comments he made about strip searches at schools.

This week, Premier Philippe Couillard refused on a number of occasions to give Bolduc a vote of confidence.

That fuelled rumours of an impending cabinet shuffle, but the successor to Bolduc remains unknown.

Bolduc, a doctor, served as the province’s health minister between 2008 and 2012.

He inherited the education portfolio when the Liberals swept to power last year.
