The Fort St. John Senior Flyers needed a win last night to keep their hopes alive of catching the Spirit River Rangers, and they got it. Fort St. John won the game 5-2 and closed to within a point of the Rangers in the North Peace Hockey League standings.

The Flyers opened the scoring mid way through the first period and added a power play goal less than a minute later to go up 2-0.

As play resumed in the second period Fort St. John saw their lead evaporate as the Rangers scored twice in the opening 6:07 of the frame. Despite losing their lead it was re-established by Tyler Loney with 4:21 left.

The Flyers put the game away in the third period with two goals, one of which came on the power play off the stick of Robbie Sidhu.

Scoring in order last night were Brady Busche, Payden Wongstedt, Tyler Loney, Joey Massingham, and Robbie Sidhu.

Troy Hunt was solid between the pipes as he turned aside 31 of the 33 shots he faced.

Next for Fort St. John is a tilt Saturday night on the road against the winless Grimshaw Huskies. The next home game will be the final home game of the regular season on February 5 against Spirit River.
