Uninsured mobile home in Dawson Creek destroyed after fire

“The person that was living in the home said it started in the laundry room,” Fire Chief Smith says. “..She said that’s where the smoke was coming from when they left.”

All four residents inside at the time of the incident managed to walk away without injuries, says Smith.

After the 15 firefighters on scene spent five hours putting out the fire – initially reported at 4:40 p.m. – they determined the mobile home – worth an approximate $60,000 – had been damaged beyond repair.

“The owners did not have insurance; the renters did not have insurance,” explains Smith.

Fire Chief Smith says if there’s a lesson to be learned; it’s the importance of securing insurance.

“This is a good example of why insurance is needed,” Smith goes on to say. “…You should be able to [afford minimal] insurance.”

The fire remains under investigation but has not been determined as suspicious.
