The underground coal mine would be 12.5 kilometres southwest of Tumbler Ridge, and would produce six million tonnes of metallurgical coal a year for an estimated 31 years. It’s proposed by HD Mining, and has been at the centre of a dispute over the hiring of foreign workers. The company has since won a federal court battle over its plans to bring in more than 200 temporary foreign workers from China.
