The free App can be downloaded to any mobile device and offers residents a host of tools in addition to a garbage day reminder, including:
• Useful information on what can be recycled and where to take it.
• A Report a Problem tool to report problems like potholes, broken street lights or signs and other city maintenance issues.
• Receive useful information from the city on things like: when road work might occur in your neighbourhood, information on public events and other news.
The Waste App will work in conjunction with the Waste Widget recently added to the city website, allowing residents to enter any item and find out where to take it for disposal.
If there is an item that a resident is looking for that is not on the list, they can submit a request that it be added and staff can update the list where possible.

“This App will be a great tool for residents to not just get their garbage out in time but also to submit information to the city in an easy and timely manner that may be a safety concern for residents.” Director of Infrastructure and Sustainable Development, Kevin Henderson said in a written statement.
Using GPS technology, a resident can use the app to advise the city of damaged stop signs, potholes or street lights that are out.
“I am very excited to download this app and give it a try. This should be a great two way communications tool that is free and easy to use for residents and the city,” Mayor Bumstead writes.
The waste collection app was designed for the city by Recollect Systems and is currently used in cities such as Vancouver, Surrey and Port Moody.
The app can be updated to include curbside recycling or composting if that becomes available.
