“We just walk and at the same time remember people you may have lost or people that are still fighting the disease,” Co-Chair of Relay for Life, Brenda Baumeister said. “It’s a great time to reflect. “
All the money raised goes towards cancer survivors and their families, research and preventative teachings, such as the Candy Tobacco Campaign.
The message is a fight against cancer, as ceremonies like the survivor victory laps, fight back ceremony, and luminary ceremony helps reflect the cause.
There’s also fun activates being hosted throughout the day. The relay is hosting a variety of sports games, face paining, and tug of war.
Although online registration is closed, Baumeister says it’s never too late for participants to show up, donate some money, support the athletes and be part of a worthy cause.
The event kicks off 10:00 a.m., at Dr. Kearney Junior Secondary, and the run is expected to last from 12:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
