The city wants to hear your ideas to help energize downtown

Through the assistance of a multidisciplinary team of planning and urban design professionals, and building on the 2011 Official Community Plan as well as the work completed in phase 1, phase 2 will identify a range of development and design concepts and priorities for both public and private realms.

This will form the foundation for development of an implementation framework and detailed policies for action in phase 3.

The city is hosting a “drop in” event on June 26, running from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Cultural Centre. During this time, the city will present an overview of background information along with some of their early design ideas of the future of our downtown core.

The same information will also be available at the city’s Canada Day booth, offering another opportunity for you to share ideas and even win a prize.

PlaceSpeak, an online forum for ideas is currently running on the city’s website through the end of July, also being used to help shape concept options for the future of downtown. You find this forum by the following the link, https://www.placespeak.com/topic/1050-fort-st-john-energize-downtown/

“Fort St. John is at an important crossroads and is expected to undergo significant growth over the coming years,” the press release reads. “The downtown has a key role to play in improving the quality and livability of the city as it undergoes this transformation.”

In August, the city will update the online forum to gather feedback on concept options.
