The Keynote speaker will be Ken Chapman, the Executive Director of Northern Initiatives for the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation and he has some first hand knowledge.
Mr. Chapman was in Fort McMurray during the early years of the energy boom in northeastern Alberta, and is the past Executive Director of the Oil Sands Developers Group.
Advance billing for his presentation indicates he will attempt to ease concerns residents have regarding development pressures on such things as infrastructure, housing, health services, and various other socio-economic issues.
In previous documented statements, Mr. Chapman has applauded the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers for its emphasis on a science based, long-term approach, to development of the oil and gas industry, which avoids duplication by governments.
He’s also made it clear he’s not a big fan of those who think government should be run more like a business…arguing they’re very different and government is more often more complex than most businesses.
