Peace River organizations rewarded with B.C. Arts Council grants

In Peace River North the Mackenzie Community Arts Council received $15,500, the Community Arts Council of Fort St. John got $9,629, and the Peace-Liard Regional Arts Council was given $9,100.

Organizations in Peace River South receiving grants were the Chetwynd Community Arts Council as they got $6,399, and the South Peace Community Arts Council received $11,077.

Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm says in a release, “Thanks to this funding, arts and culture in the North Peace will continue to prosper and thrive. Having a diverse arts and culture scene is important as it brings our community together to appreciate the incredible talents of artists right here in our region.”

Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier adds, “The South Peace has an expanding arts and cultural presence as more and more people move to our region. I am pleased to see our government fund these arts councils continue to do great work creating a vibrant and diverse arts scene in Dawson Creek and in Chetwynd.”

The funding comes from a record high $24,000,000 the B.C. Arts Council received from the provincial government to support artists, arts activities and culture in the 2013-14 fiscal year.
