Prince George-Peace River MP Bob Zimmer calls it more than just an economic benefit.
“It creates opportunities and enables families to stay together. Strong families are essential to strong communities.”
Northern Rockies Regional Municipality’s mayor, Bill Streeper, told the committee this morning it’s seen $90 million in royalties to date and has helped to fund a new recreation centre, water systems, roads, and playgrounds.
Streeper said it has also contributed to a higher quality of life in the community with the average household income, on average, at close to $100,000 dollars annually.
