Fort St. John controlled the pace and took a 2-0 lead in the first period with one of those goals coming on the powerplay.
Play was more even in the second period, however Fort St. John extended their lead to 3-0. Grande Prairie got two goals late to close the gap to one.
Things were quiet throughout most of the third period. The Huskies were assessed a penalty with just over 1:30 left in the third period, and the JDA Kings cashed in on the powerplay to tie the game.
The first overtime solved nothing, and it looked like things were headed for a third overtime but Grande Prairie found the back of the net in the final minute of double overtime.
Head coach Gary Alexander says the team came close to pulling out the win and the loss is a tough one to handle.
“We just have to stick to our gameplan. We’ve been in the lead. We hit two posts and had multiple chance to put it away in overtime. I thought we outplayed them all night long. We had a let up that allowed them to catch up to us in the second period was probably the worst part of our game. We just didn’t bury it when we had our chances and they did. It’s a tough one to swallow.”
Goals for Fort St. John were scored by Daylen Pearson, Blair Karasiuk, and Taylor Greatrex.
Game five goes Thursday night in Grande Prairie at 8 p.m.
