V.E. Brandl Flyers take first place in home tournament

The Flyers opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over the Spirit River Rangers. Kale Goulet got the shut out in goal.

Saturday morning things got started early for the Flyers with a game against the Grande Prairie A squad. The Flyers took the win 4-2 and took on the Grande Prairie B team Saturday afternoon. The final game of the round robin was a breeze for Fort St. John as they cruised to a 15-2 win.

The Flyers met up with Sexsmith in the finals who also went undefeated in the round robin. Sexsmith opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game, but the Flyers tied things up with just over five minutes left in the opening period.

Heading into the second period with the score still tied at one, Sexsmith scored twice in 19 seconds to take a 3-1 lead. Shortly after the third Sexsmith goal the Flyers would cut into the lead and trailed 3-2 heading into the final frame.

With a strong effort needed in the third period the Flyers came out strong and got the job done. They got the tying goal and the go ahead goal mid way through the third in a 33 second span, and rounded out the scoring with an insurance marker with 8:35 left in the third.

Scoring in order for the Flyers were Chase London, Jace Wieler, Seth Sutherland, Tyler Musgrove, and Naythen Zinck.
