The Senior Flyers opened the scoring 10:48 into the first period, and netted five goals in total before the first period came to a conclusion.
Hythe found the back of the net first in the second period for their only goal of the game, and the Flyers kept the pressure on by adding another six goals.
The third period was when the fireworks began. Aside from netting eight goals, 24 penalties were issued.
Head Coach Gerard Dicaire was not on the bench as he was serving a suspension but was in the stands for the game. He was happy with how the team performed given the lay off of having three consecutive games postponed.
“The boys hadn’t played in a while with all of the cancellations but it was good to watch from upstairs. They came out and played really well. They were doing all of the little things,” he says. “It’s not like Hythe was shorthanded. [The Flyers] just stuck to the game plan that we talked about.”
Dicaire says that while an extended period of time off can be detrimental, he thinks it was good for the team to get away for a bit after a slow start to the season.
“Thursday when SpiritRiver cancelled we called a few of the Huskies and had a scrimmage just so the guys could get in some game-like situations. We had been struggling lately anyways, so I think the break did us good where the guys realized that they needed to get stuff together with our penalty trouble.”
There were two fights in the first two periods before things got heated in the third with two line brawls and a goalie fight. Dicaire says the onus was on Hythe to perform better on the ice and not take shots at opposing players.
“It could have been due to the score. The boys were running it up on them but what are they suppose to do, quit playing and just run the clock?” he asks rhetorically. “It’s not our fault we were beating them so bad. They were getting chippy and just before the 10 minute mark there was an incident where their captain had been taking a couple of runs at our captain and [Matt] Shuya didn’t like it so he took care of it.”

Shots on goal were well in favour of the Flyers 55-16.
Up next for the Flyers is a game in Grande Prairie on Thursday evening, followed by a home date on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. against Falher.
