Assistant Coach Todd Alexander says McLean brings a great work ethic to the club along with being well respected in the team’s dressing room.
“Travis is probably our hardest worker on our hockey club. He puts the most amount of time as far as extras go into the gym and making sure that he’s the best that he can be at his position,” he says. “Obviously he’s a big part of our hockey team when he’s in the dressing room as well. He supplies us with some leadership and veteran presence and backs up a lot of the things the coaching staff is trying to imply with the team and the room.”
The team spent time at practice working on their play in the centre of the ice leading up to the contest. Alexander was happy with what he saw in practice and looks forward to seeing it carry forward into games.
“We were working on neutral zone control, staying in our positions and our lanes and continuing to build on our game from our own zone out and get better at it where we have a bit of a weakness right now,” he explains. “Definitely the boys are starting to understand it and it’s becoming a habit to get into the position. We’re trying to create habits so that when we get into a game situation they get into the right spot instead of having to think about what they have to do.”
Tomorrow’s tilt can be heard live on Moose FM Saturday night starting with the pre-game show at 7:45 p.m., and the opening faceoff will follow shortly after at 8 p.m.
