Sentencing in dog burning case expected today

The animal cruelty charge stemmed from an incident on July 7, 2012, when the burnt remains of a kennel and a small dog were found in a fire pit near a trailer she was occupying at a private campsite near Grovedale, Alberta.  RCMP also concluded from witness accounts that a second dog suffered serious enough injuries that it too did not likely survive.  

Holden, who was 53 at the time of her arrest, was originally charged with two counts of injuring or endangering animals, and two counts of causing animals unnecessary suffering. Initial police reports suggested she was likely intoxicated and angry following an argument with a partner, who had left the site before investigating officers arrived.
