Opening with I Can Love You Better from 1998’s Wide Open Spaces, Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire had the predominantly female audience under their spell. Maines’ effortlessly powerful voice filled the arena, while fiddle and banjo solos from Maguire and Robison held the room captive. Fans could be heard singing along to every song, picking up for favourites like Ready to Run and Fleetwood Mac cover Landslide.

After Lubbock or Leave It, named for Maines’ hometown, the ladies and their band left the stage, only to return to the loudest cheers in recent Encana Events Centre memory. Their encore took them through Travelin’ Soldier from 1999’s Fly, and the highly anticipated Not Ready to Make Nice from 2006’s Taking the Long Way, finishing with a rambunctious cover of Bob Dylan’s Mississippi.
