PRRD looking to make deal with Fort St. John for cheaper rural bulk water

As of January 1, 2013, rural residents pay $3.00 per cubic metre for bulk water, while city residents pay $1.12 per cubic metre for water.

The rural directors say they are each willing to allocate $50,000 from their annual Fair Share funding each year for the next ten years, as capital payments to go towards the extra costs of upgrading the City’s water system. Both Areas B and C received $591,000 in Fair Share funds last year.

At its meeting Monday, City Council requested that staff prepare a report on the matter, including the actual funds received at the rural water station, for the next council meeting.
