“We are concerned that only hearing venues near the proposed dam site in the Peace River region are being considered. That’s a problem,” he says. “Hearings should be held throughout the province, from Bella Coola to Cranbrook, from Osoyoos to Fort Nelson and all points in between.”
B.C. Hydro was recently told by the Joint Review Panel that further information is needed to support its amended Environmental Impact Statement, before it can be deemed sufficient. The regulatory clock is essentially stopped at this point, until Hydro responds in full, and if satisfied, the JRP can schedule public hearings.
Public comments on how the public hearings should be held are being accepted until September 16.
