Rural town hall meetings near Fort St. John this week

The “Community Conversations” are intended to be an opportunity for the public to discuss the controversial new building bylaw, along with other community-specific issues with PRRD Directors.

There’s been significant rural opposition to the legislation that requires building permits for construction in all areas of the district. It came into effect on March 18 and a bid to have it quashed, in favour of one along the lines of the one it replaced, was defeated at a June 13 district board meeting in order to consult with the public.

10 of the 19 meetings scheduled remain, stretching into the middle of September.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

August 20 7:00 p.m. Montney Community Hall

August 22 6:30 p.m. Charlie Lake Community Hall

August 27 7:00 p.m. Chetwynd Recreation Centre
