Mobile mammography screening coming to Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge

Northern B.C. rural communities were added to the schedule last year, to help improve and increase access to screening for women aged 50 to 74.

“The B.C. Cancer Agency’s goal is to make screening available to everyone in B.C.,” says Medical Director Dr. Christine Wilson. “Our mobile services visit over 120 rural communities every year to reach women in more isolated communities. Screening saves lives and it important to make sure that women throughout the province participate in regular screening.”

The mammograms will be conducted on an appointment basis by a female technologist, which can be booked without a doctor’s referral by calling the B.C. Cancer Agency Screening Call Centre at 1-800-663-9203

Last year the mobile mammography service screened 2,281 women in the Northern Health Authority.
