Getting arrested for a good cause

Once locked up, detainees must raise enough money to “make bail” before being released, with all funds raised going towards the Cops for Cancer Tour de North bike ride.

“Last year, thanks to generous donations from the community, the Fort St. John Jail N’ Bail raised the most money out of any community in the forth to the Cops for Cancer bike ride,” says Constable Vandine. “By giving up their freedom for a few hours, they will be donating their time to the most important cause – the fight for life.”

The 2013 Tour will kick off in Dawson Creek, stopping in FortSt. John, Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd, and Mackenzie on its way to WilliamsLake, and will have both Constable Vandine and Inspector Pat Egan taking part.

Friends, family and coworkers can nominate someone to be arrested by contacting Constable Brad Vandine at the Fort St. John RCMP detachment at 787-8140, by faxing 250-787-8133, or emailing fsj.cops4cancer@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Cops will be picking up “perps” all day, so if there is a specific time you would like the arrest to take place at, indicate that in your request.

Last year’s Jail N’ Bail raised over $33,000 for cancer research.
