That includes any job that places the person in a position of trust or care with unsupervised access to a child under the age of 19 years old, or someone unable to take care of themselves due to disability, age, or illness, or is at greater risk of abuse. 

According to the policy, its intention is to “demonstrate due diligence in protecting the interests of the [District of Taylor] and its residents.” 

Anyone failing to provide an RCMP criminal record check could be considered ineligible for a position, but a job will not be denied to someone if they’ve been charged with or convicted of an offence unrelated to their duties. 

By law, municipalities are not required to impose checks, but it’s considered prudent to do so. 

Taylor did not previously have such a policy, and at the July 2, 2013 council meeting, it was asked for one to be brought forward.
