The new hospital opened on June 21, 2012, after construction of the two-story hospital with 55 acute-care beds and a residential care facility with 124 beds began in September 2009.

Elsewhere in the province’s northeast, B.C. Hydro’s G.M. Shrum Generating Station Fire Protection Upgrade Project also received a Silver Mechanical Contractor over $3 million award. The 20 year old fire alarm system at the main powerhouse structure of the W.A.C. Bennett Dam is set to be replaced over the next two years by Gisborne Industrial Contracting Ltd. to ensure that the fire alarm system meets current code and reliability requirements.

The awards are given out by the Vancouver Regional Construction Association, which is hosting its 25th annual Awards of Excellence this fall.

“The Silver Award winners this year all represent companies that were able to bring projects of the highest calibre in on time and on budget,” said Jan Robinson, interim President of the VRCA in press release.

Gold Award of Excellence winners will be announced at a gala in Vancouver on October 17, which will be chosen from each of the three Silver Award winners in each category.
