Outreach Coordinator Reanna Brown explains the store stocks non-perishable food items, clothing for women and children, as well as essential household items and is free for use by for women and single fathers who self-identify as low-income.
“Women or single dads can get free baby diapers, formula, clothing, food, hygiene products,” she adds. “We need some help with that.”
At the heart of the store is the volunteers, who are responsible for receiving donations and keeping the store running on a day-to-day basis. They’re also useful in the summer months when the FSJWRS appears at many local events.
“What we need in the long-run is steady, reliable, fabulous volunteers,” she says. “It keeps our store open; it keeps us running. Because we’re a non-profit, we don’t have the money to have paid staff to do all that stuff.”
Anyone with items to donate to the garage sale can contact Twyla or Colleen at the Super 8, and anyone interested in volunteering can contact Reanna Brown at (250) 787-1121.
The garage sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Super 8. Non-perishable food donations will also be accepted.
