Funding available to participate in Murray River Coal Project environmental assessment

The coal mine, proposed by HD Mining International, has faced harsh criticism and legal challenges over its hiring of about 200 foreign workers from China instead of Canadians.

It would produce six million tonnes of metallurgical coal per year for an estimated 31 years at its location 12.5 kilometres southwest of Tumbler Ridge. I is currently undergoing a federal environmental assessment and has submitted its draft Environmental Assessment Report.

Individuals and groups can apply for funding to enable them to participate in the process, including consultation on the Environmental Impact Statement and draft Environmental Assessment Report. To apply for funding or for more information on the project and the environmental assessment process, visit the Agency’s website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca (registry reference number 80041) or contact the Participant Funding Program by writing to PFP.PAFP@ceaa-acee.gc.ca or by calling 1-866-582-1884.

Applications must be received by September 6, 2013.
