Ryan Harvey is the Pro Shop Manager at the golf course. He says the tournament gave those a chance to be exposed to competitive golf, and to see how they faired compared to other golfers.

“It’s [was] a great opportunity for them to test their skills against some of the other juniors,” he explains. “Not only [did] we have some of the best competitive golfers in the area here, we also have some guys that are new to tournament golf.”

Golfers ranging in age from seven to sixteen took part in the tournament. The event was also part of Peace Country Junior Tour this year. Harvey adds that having Junior Open as part of the tour this year gives golfers from the region more of a chance to showcase their skills.

“It allows the kids more opportunities to play golf,” he says. We’re proud to be a part of it. A lot of bigger centres have tours like this, and for us to start one up here in the north is a step in the right direction for junior golf.”

Despite the rain showers in the days prior to golfers teeing off, the course was in great shape, with green speeds being at acceptable levels. Below are the overall results from the event:

Junior Boys Champion: Alex Hartman – 80

Junior Girls Champion: Victoria Szoo – 122

First Flight Winner: Cody Oakley – 87

Second Flight Winner: Isaac Wagner – 122

Third Flight Winner, Low Net Winner: Dane Oakley – 102 (Net 67)
