At 11:55 a.m. on July 7, his body was found by an RCMP helicopter pilot and Police Service Dog handler in the wooded area at kilometre 29 of the Eskai Road. He was located in an area within one kilometre from where his backpack and mushroom baskets were found, which were several hundred metres from where he was dropped off.

Although Martin was known as an experienced outdoors person with advanced hunting, fishing and backcountry skills, he was only equipped with the necessities for a one day excursion, and the loss of his backpack greatly concerned authorities.

Martin was a member of the Neskonlith Indian Band near Chase, B.C., and the Fort Nelson First Nation, along with Fort Nelson Victim Services, are now assisting his family in their time of grief. No further information on his cause of death has been released.
